Project name: TYPE A

Tutoring and literacy projects in the school, through leisure or socio-educational activities with children.

Field: Education

Volunteer educational work as an assistant to a local teacher or independently.

Support of school children in the field of education work

Context and work involved

Centre des Hommes offers volunteers the chance to tutor classes in a village near Kpalimé, or in other villages in Togo. The pupils suffer great academic shortcomings, such as in English, widely used as an international language, and especially French, the official language in Togo. Many children speak too little French or English in their families, made worse by the limited qualifications of some local teachers. In rural areas, teachers are often underpaid and poorly motivated.  Some teachers to work on farms to increase their income.  You can bring your talents to the rescue.  You can contribute to a better future for them.

Our surveying shows that in the earlier years of education girls make more progress than boys, but as the years pass the number of girls decreases in the older years. Girls abandon school too early and thus become less literate. Their education becomes fragile, reducing their potential to contribute to society. The basic education of young girls is a priority for us at Centre des Hommes.

This project is part of short or long duration stay missions, and is suited to people seriously interested in, and committed to intercultural relations.
