Public toilets for local villages

by Senam Koffi Tsogbe / Sunday, 27 March 2022 / Published in Forthcoming or coming projects

In remote villages and rural areas of Togo, public toilets are in a precarious state and easily spread disease through flies and other infections.  The idea is to build public toilets in order to improve hygiene and prevent disease, as well as protect the village environment.

Centre des Hommes proposes to facilitate this need for the villages. We observed one of these villages where the need is immediate. Then we made assessment of the village. The villagers said they wanted to repair the damage. This means, the villagers want to change the situation of their toilet in the village. But the basic activity is agriculture. They feed themselves and provide for health and education to their families. Then they have nothing and there are no other activities in the village. Each family has at least four children. Without a doubt this increases the risk of catching disease through poor hygiene and uncleanliness. It is therefore important to help this village.

Feasibility of public toilet

Indeed, It is a village of 123 inhabitants and their only public toilet is in a dilapidated and precarious state. But the problem turns out that they lack financial means. But they can provide sand, fetch water from the river and provide a work force. In addition, they have already contributed a sum of money to rebuild the toilet. This is for the purpose to avoid diseases, infections and to protect the environment. However, considering their own effort, their awareness, in the search of their well-being and their willingness. Therefore we have decided to provide our support.

Therefore, Centre des Hommes is now assisting them to rebuild the toilet. We invite you to contribute to the construction by making a donation. We are counting on your generosity to prevent disease, infection, and the dirtiness of the public toilet in the village.
